GAIL PERRY
GAIL PERRY
FINE ARTIST
01 about
A love of art became the foundation for a career in design. Born in Fresno, California, Gail earned a degree in Industrial Technology from Fresno State University and furthered her education at Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles majoring in Advertising and Fashion Illustration. Her career in design began as Associate Art Director for Skin Diver Magazine and freelance illustrator for Motor Trend and Teen magazines. Returning to Fresno in 1975 she became a founding partner in the design firm of Graphics 2 providing award-winning creative design services in advertising and illustration to a diverse client base. She adds numerous American Advertising (ADDY) awards to her achievements. Included in her experience, Gail has been an advertising design instructor at Fresno State University, an Artist-In-Residence for the Fresno County Office of Education and has designed two books, "Huntington Lake: Celebrating 100 Years" and "The Clovis Rodeo: An American Tradition."
She now paints full-time creating fine art in watercolor, oil and acrylic mediums with a mastery of composition and technique, as well as a passion to capture a story for each subject. Gail's work is represented in both commercial and private collections and she has been a selected artist in Southwest Art magazine.

Artist Statement
As an artist I draw inspiration from ordinary experiences and objects; my father wearing his old straw hat while picking the season’s best for my mother’s special pie; a crisp fall day with the wind swirling colorful leaves; or that first moment of witnessing grief among sacred symbols and holy rituals.
These are portraits of life; the subjects I paint—everyday scenes that capture an emotion with a goal to immerse the viewer. They convey the expression on a child who doesn’t want to pose for a painting and would rather be playing outside or, best buddies who played hooky to go fishing at the river.
I see art everywhere. My mind is a vast and fertile space collecting images and ideas that elevate my thinking and orchestrate ideas for the characters, setting, composition, and execution of what I create.
While I feel comfortable working in a variety of mediums, I strive to master the technical control necessary for watercolor, the ability to have my brushes dance with oil on a canvas, or laying down simple lines in pencil to suggest form and space. Experimentation with traditional mediums and digital techniques has also allowed me to push boundaries of generalities and reinterpret realism.
I continue to challenge myself, explore ideas, and gather experiences on my journey to inspire.
